Overcoming Trauma Embodying Resilience

An event every week that begins at 9:00 am on Sunday, repeating until Sunday, December 22nd, 2019
Overcoming Trauma – Embodying Resilience is a 5 Week Healing Series focused on releasing trauma stored in the body and reclaiming resilience through yoga, movement, and connecting to the Elements. This series offers a safe space to explore the intelligence of the body to help release stored trauma and stagnant energy. The intention of the series is to help participants remember the power and wisdom that lives in the body and that can be created through the transformation of pain. In addition to healing movement, this series incorporates Elemental practices that work with the energy of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. The Elemental practices help participants to understand each of these Elements as our relatives and tap into their abilities to help in the healing process. The series offers an alternative to talk therapy, focusing on non-verbal ways in which the body, mind, and Spirit communicate and the tools we innately have to slow down, listen, connect, and heal.
OVERVIEW OF SERIES:
WEEK ONE: November 17th – 9:00AM-11:00AM
As we begin our journey together we will orientate ourselves to the series and focus on establishing group agreements to create a safe space for us all. In addition to the yoga aspect of the practice we will be writing letters of commitment to ourselves as well as other practices that will set the intention on our journey moving forward.
WEEK TWO: November 24th – 9:00AM-11:00AM
Earth – This week focuses on establishing a sense of home, reconnecting to our ancestors, and understanding the deep connection between Mother Earth and our own bodies. In addition to the yoga practice we will also get our hands in the soil, plant seeds, and ground into the healing powers of Mother Earth.
NO CLASS DECEMBER 1st
WEEK THREE: December 8th – 9:00AM-11:00AM
Water – This week is centered on the understanding that Water is Life, the healing power that connects all living beings. The practices this week will focus on fluidity, cleansing, and the power of affirmations. In addition to the yoga practice we will partake in a Water ceremony.
WEEK FOUR: December 15th – 9:00AM-11:00AM
Fire – This week focuses on establishing healthy boundaries and understanding one’s personal strength and power. In addition to the yoga practice we will partake in a Fire ceremony.
WEEK FIVE: December 22nd – 9:00AM-11:00AM
Air – As the final week of the series we will focus on vision, acceptance, trust and the cyclical nature of all life. In addition to the yoga practice we will spend time exploring the healing power of creative expression.
Shira Barlas is a community organizer, educator, movement based healer, and life counseling advisor that focuses her work on the intersections of spirituality, social justice, creative expression, and soil advocacy. She graduated from Occidental College with a degree in Religious Studies and had the honor of living and studying in monasteries in India, Nepal, and China. Weaving together her education with her experience of working with youth in juvenile detention centers, as well as with indigenous communities in Standing Rock, North Dakota and around California she has dedicated her life to the protection of Mother Earth and all of our Relations. With the knowledge and wisdom she has gained, she has had the resources and opportunities to dig deep into her wounds and work to heal her experiences of sexual abuse, unexpected loss of a loved one, and inherited ancestral trauma. Shira has worked with a number of different populations including folks overcoming trauma from abuse, loss, unexpected medical emergencies, chronic illnesses, and addiction. In addition to her healing work, Shira is focused on taking care of her family as she is pregnant with her first child. With the responsibility of bringing in new life she is excited to continue to create a world in which the next Seven Generations will thrive as we honor and uplift those who have come before us.
PAYMENT PLANS & SCHOLARSHIPS:
This course is intended for participants to take as a 5 part series, each class individually is $55 for the two hours, however, a commitment to the 5 weeks is necessary for participation and payment is preferred in full. However, if you are unable to pay the full amount at once please email [email protected] for payment plan options. There is also scholarship options available too for those who are unable to afford the series at this time.
