Your new favorite sandwich shop and your new go-to butcher are now under one roof. Chops Meat and Fish and Dave’s Chillin N Grillin have joined forces in the historic Frank’s Camera building at 5715 N. Figueroa. With an entrance located in the rear, both establishment’s boast quality ingredients at affordable prices. Originally two separate storefront locations, rising rents brought Ruben Perez and Jeff Perez of Chops and Dave Evans of Dave’s together in an attempt to save their businesses.

Highland Park natives and friends Ruben and Jeff opened Chop’s Meat and Fish with a mission to offer local, sustainable, healthy meat options to the neighborhood. All of the meat offerings at Chop’s are sourced through small, local farms that raise livestock without the use of hormones or antibiotics.

Chop’s offers a wide selection of healthy, high-quality meats that is apparent simply based on apperance. With no pre-wrapping, Chop’s operates as an old world butcher and offers a selection of house made sausages. Along with organic poultry, quality lamb and more premium offerings like bison, elk, duck, rabbit and venison — Chop’s also offers prime grade, organic grass-fed beef. With only 10 percent of California’s meat certified prime, this is a quality that is unmatched in the neighborhood.

Dave’s Chillin N Grillin — owned by Dave Evans — brings delicious, east coast style sandwiches to the heart of North East L.A. Moving to the area 25 years ago from Boston, Evans sought to create a great sandwich the likes of which he was unable to find upon moving to Los Angeles. Evan’s sandwiches come in either David (regular) or Goliath (large) sizes. The specialty sandwiches feature quality meats, cheeses and vegetables, all brought together by the famous “Dave’s Hotts” sauce. Along with traditional hot and cold sandwiches, Dave’s has a wide array of vegan and vegetarian options.

If you are unable to make it into the store Dave’s offers catering for any style of sandwich, whatever you may need, at affordable prices.

The space is also home to as a specialty marketplace for gourmet products not normally found in a supermarket. The Arroyo Seco Marketplace at Chops offers a variety of local produce, frozen dairy products, raw dairy, spices, homemade food and specialty drinks. The available products can be viewed online at the Chop’s website.

Chop’s and Dave’s are two of many new businesses occupying the Frank’s Camera building on Figueroa. The building was sold for in October of 2014 to Engine Real Estate and renovations followed. Developers have kept the historic oval Franks sign which has been a visual staple on Figueroa since Frank Vacek and his family purchased the building in the 1970s. The brick building, built in 1928, originally housed a department store before becoming Frank’s Cameras.

Chops Meat & Fish and Dave’s Chillin N Grillin are located at 5715 N. Figueroa (entrance in the rear) and are open Monday–Friday 11 a.m. — 7 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m.— 6 p.m. Sunday Closed.
